PAID ADVERTISEMENT WE KNEW ALL ALONG While the Confederated Kootenai Tribes take credit for the Flathead Lake level to begin within one foot of pool for the next 45 days, it is simply not true. The real Heros in the lake battle are Congressman Ryan Zinke and the Department of the Interior. Brian Lipscomb CEO of Energy Keepers Incorporated, states at great sacrifice to EKI he chooses to allow us to have water in the lake for 45 days, WOW. What a crock. The business around the lake loose significantly more revenue in the reduction of tourist spending and the loss of property values than the tribe makes on generating electricity during the summer months. We have said for years that EKI was only interested in making big profits. Last week Brian, who by the way makes over $600,000.00 a year (based on salary.com), has finally admitted to that. Well, there are other stakeholders involved in the lake level. YOU! Matching inflows and outflows is one solution. The other solution is to take water out of Hungry Horse Reservoir, and hold it in the Flathead Lake until September 15th. No one loses in this scenario. We don't understand why CSKT opposes this logical decision. The media is not helpful in this endeavor, they do not have the time to research the facts so they accept whatever EKI offers them as gospel and they print it. Sad but true. Our congressional representatives can make change happen. Senators Steve Daines, Tim Sheehy, Congressman Ryan Zinke and Troy Downing, need to help their Constituents get this gross negligence on the part of CSKT resolved. SHORE, a non-profit group, has been fighting to keep Flathead Lake at full pool (2893 feet) except for extreme drought conditions (then within one foot of full pool) for almost three decades. Montana Power cooperated, PPL cooperated. Senator Conrad Burns, Senator Max Baucas and representative Dennis Rehberg all got behind the effort to keep Flathead Lake at Full Pool for 90 days, from June 15th to September 15th. There must be some sinister reason CSKT is against recognizing that people rely on the lake to make a living, to recreate and to enjoy the JEWEL OF MONTANA. Our only hope is with our congressional leaders. We must pass a congressional act to settle this once and for all.
